  • Balance Before You Eat

How do you know your food is well balanced? This should be grade 4 Science. Carbohydrates, Vitamins, and Proteins make a balanced diet.

Each type of food brings something specific to the table. For instance, to be energetic, you need carbs. Vitamins are perfect for fighting diseases off. Want to build your body up, befriend proteins.

You don’t want to build a sick body, right? Therefore, always make sure your plate has three food types.

Carbohydrates include wheat, maize, pasta, spaghetti, macaroni, rice, potatoes, etc.

You can find proteins in all animal products like milk, beef, mutton, pork, etc. White meat like chicken and fish is recommended.

Legumes like beans, green peas, cowpeas, green grams (Mung beans), lentils are perfect sources of protein if you like vegetarian meals. Oops! I forgot eggs.

Finally, vitamins are a must-have in every dish. Name all vegetables and fruits. Tomatoes, onions, carrots, cabbage, kales, spinach, French beans, broccoli, eggplant, cucumber, the list is endless.

  • Did You Drink Water Today?

I need to confess something. I used to have a habit of only taking water after meals. Another confession? I’m still struggling with it. But at least I’m trying.

Water is essential to the body. Every biological process requires water in your system, including breathing. What? Hell yes. Let me explain how water helps your breathing.

Drinking water helps to thin the mucus lining on your airways and lungs. This way, there’s no obstruction and breathing becomes more comfortable.

Water also enhances skin health and keep your overall body alive. No wonder your body is made up of 60% water.

I may take the whole day writing about water. So, let’s move on.

  • Love Your Bed

Confused? I know, right? Spend enough time sleeping. Health professionals will always recommend at least 8 hours of undisturbed sleep. When last did you enjoy a sound sleep without your kid storming your room at 3 am because she has “seen a ghost”?

Well, I understand how bad the economy is. You need to work your ass off for your family to be okay. But remember that you may also be working for your medical bills, which can be avoided.

Sleeping gives time for your body organs to rest. This is vital because most organs get overworked when you don’t rest. For example, an overworked kidney may end up failing. Adequate sleep also gives you a break from the world’s worries. Hence, sleep, sleep, sleep, and sleep.

  • Hit the Gym

The first time I enrolled for the gym, my whole body ached for one week. I wanted to give up, but I didn’t. The pain always goes away after a few days anyway.

Do you want to cut off that belly? Do you want tighter muscles? There’s no shortcut. Exercise.

Exercise does more than just shape your body up. It improves blood circulation, balances the blood pressure, elevates your moods, alleviates muscle pain, and more.

  • Maintain Hygiene

Bacteria and other microbes thrive on dirty surfaces. You know that, right? What if you destroyed their habitat?

Maintaining cleanliness is the primary method of preventing all forms of infections—no wonder the World Health Organization is urging people to sanitize their hands.

Always wash your hands under running water before handling food. Also, clean your fruits and vegetables, and don’t forget to teach your kids how to wash their hands.

  • Don’t Wait to Be Sick Before Visiting the Doctor.

Regular checkups help a great deal. Most people usually wait until the situation is out of control before they go to the hospital. It won’t hurt just to have your body condition checked.

Check your blood pressure, temperature, sugar level, condition of your eyes, heartbeat, etc. This will help you know the health status of your body, and hence, you’ll be in a better position to take care of it. Most of these tests don’t cost a dime.

  • Check Your Mental Health

Mental health is usually ignored, yet it contributes a lot to your physical health. Mental disorders like depression and anxiety can throw you off balance. Stress is widespread. Nonetheless, being ordinary doesn’t mean it should be treated as usual.

Analyze the state of your mind. Do minor issues agitate you? Do you overthink when you’re alone? Are you suicidal?

It’s a good idea to always talk to someone you trust. Talking about it helps. Don’t ever keep things to yourself. Introverts mostly suffer this.

You can also talk to a professional psychiatrist.

            Let’s Wrap This Up

Good health is one of the most incredible gifts you can ever have. The good news is that you can always nurture your health into what you want to have. Make sure you eat well, sleep enough, and exercise a bit. If you aren’t doing this yet, start now. I’m eager to hear the testimonies in a few weeks.

Wait, one last tip. Stay away from alcohol!
